Hello,
a bit about me:
My name is Sylvie Gheewalla and I am a sophomore at the University of Maryland. I am a student at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, double majoring in Marketing and Management. I am a part of College Park Scholars, more specifically, Media, Self and Society. My scholars program has given me so much already. I have made lifelong friends, made connections with amazing professors, and have learned how to effectively collaborate on projects. Also. my Scholars program ignited my interest in marketing, which pushed me to apply to the business school. A recurring topic in class is how media influences people’s opinions and choices. I have found this very eye-opening and important in today's political climate. Although I have enjoyed learning about media influence through the lens of journalism, I would love to study it from a business viewpoint. I believe that my knowledge and interest in media will be helpful when taking marketing classes, as the topics are intertwined, and allow me to share a different perspective with my classmates. When I graduate from the University of Maryland, I hope to have acquired many different skills that can be applied in many different areas. My goal is to work in the sports industry but I am confident that if that does not happen, I will still find something that takes what I have learned in Media Scholars and what I will continue to learn in the business school.
